Fragments is a 1986 leader album released by ECM, featuring Paul Bley, one of Canada's leading jazz pianists, who has been active since the 1950s, participating in the Ornette Coleman Quartet and Jazz Composer's Orchestra, and leaving behind numerous masterpieces with his own groups. This quartet work features trusted artists John Surman, Bill Frisell, and Paul Motian. While Bley takes on repertoire he has performed many times before, the arrangements and instrumentation are unique and create a completely different impression. The atmosphere, with subtle melodies floating in the soundscape, is characteristic of ECM during this era. The unique reverb space is also superb. All tracks are highly recommended. Original German pressing. This is a rare find.
