The fourth installment in the Rhythm Record series, released in 1982 by Shuichi “Ponta” Murakami, one of Japan’s most important drummers, who sadly passed away in 2021, together with Shigenori Kamiya, a synthesizer player who had been exploring the possibilities of synthesizers since the 1970s and even built his own electronic music studio. Created solely with Ponta’s live drum playing and computer-generated rhythm patterns, this record features a wide range of rhythms across various BPMs. It can be used in many ways regardless of genre — as sampling material, a DJ tool, or a source for production ideas. But as the title Byoki-hen suggests, this is the most extreme and twisted entry in the series, so how you use it is entirely up to your imagination. Highly stimulating stuff. Includes Ponta’s handwritten signature on outer sleeve.
