A 1985 album by Lisbon-born Portuguese jazz vocalist Maria João, also known for her work with Japanese jazz pianist Aki Takase. Her 1988 album Conversa was featured in the guidebook Obscure Sound: Tōgenkyō-teki Onban 640-sen. This was her second album released under the quintet name. A3 is a Latin-arranged interpretation of a modern jazz classic composed by Paul Desmond, with mysterious, grooving percussion and piano supporting João’s rich, sensual vocals and scat singing. B1 begins as a subdued jazz ballad before opening into a more expansive, spiritual jazz mood. Throughout the album, a subtle Brazilian flavor blends beautifully with cool, refined playing, resulting in a deep jazz-vocal recording filled with mature elegance and understated sensuality.
