This is an album released in 1988 by Rail Band, a group from Mali in West Africa formed in 1970 under the leadership of Tidiani Kone. The album features collaborations with two superstar icons—Mali's Salif Keita and Guinea's Mory Kanté—who gained global recognition during the world music boom of the 1980s. The standout track on Side A features Mory Kanté's chants and vocals, unfolding over 27 minutes of evolving progressions atop a mellow beat that seems to derive from mambo influences. On track B3, Salif Keita's vocals take center stage, delivering a warm Afro-groove driven by a triple-meter rhythm. Highly recommended throughout.
