Released on ECM in 1984, this album brings together three exceptional players: German pianist Rainer Brüninghaus, known for superb work on solo masterpieces such as Freigeweht as well as on Eberhard Weber’s records; trumpeter Marcus Stockhausen, son of German contemporary music giant Karlheinz Stockhausen and also known for the duo album Aqua Sansa with Jasper van’t Hof; and Swiss drummer Fredy Studer, who also appeared on Percussion Profiles, the percussion ensemble project centered around Jack DeJohnette. Highlights include A1, where vast landscapes unfold through alternating passages of stillness and motion, and B1, with Stockhausen’s trumpet floating beautifully over trancy arpeggiated synths in a deeply peaceful mood. A superb album filled with an almost transcendent sense of openness. Original German pressing.
