Master of the Sarangi - Classical Music of India
Nonesuch Explorer Series (US) 1975
H-72062 (LP) w/insert.
sleeve : EX(some small and slightly dirts.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noises.)

This album, released in 1975 on the Explorer Series of the American label Nonesuch, which has produced numerous outstanding local music albums, features the Indian sarangi player Ram Narayan. He collaborates with tabla player Suresh Talwalkar and tanpura players Om Sagan and Neil Sorell. The recording and production are handled by Davis Lewiston, who has worked on many local recordings in the same series. Based on the theory of tala, the rhythmic foundation of Indian music, the album begins with a leisurely tempo called alap, followed by sharp tala where the tabla solos along with the minimal refrain of the sarangi. It continues with Ragas: Bhupali and Todi, utilizing the style of Khyal, a representative vocal form of North India, and concludes with Raga: Kaafi and Miyaan Ki Malhaar, a combination of two ragas. The album presents a deeply meditative world, resonating with the mysteries of India. The recording quality is also excellent.
