This is an album recorded in 1980 by Ravi Shankar, who gained worldwide fame as a sitar player of North Indian classical music. Tabla player Alla Rakha, tambura players Prodyot Sen and Snil Kumar Banerjee join him. The "A" side is a raga created by Shankar himself, in which Gandhi's name is selected from among the notes of a scale to form the base of the melody. The "B-side" is a raga created by his teacher Baba Allauddin in the 1920s, which expresses the mood of an autumn evening. The recording and cutting are excellent, as well as the performance, and the delicate melody of the sitar and tambura, with plenty of overtones, sounds very pleasant.
A: Homage to Mahatma Gandhi
B: Homage to Baba Allauddin
