Released in 1977, this album is by New York-born American jazz pianist Richard Beirach, who left behind numerous works for ECM and also collaborated frequently with Japanese musicians including Masahiko Togashi and Terumasa Hino. Featuring Beirach alone at the piano throughout, the album presents a truly beautiful performance in which a tranquil soundscape gradually unfolds, as though gazing across a quiet sea toward the distant horizon depicted in the cover artwork. His playing possesses a sense of light and shadow reminiscent of Paul Bley, yet creates an even more exquisitely beautiful sonic world. Japanese pressing released as part of the Trio Jazz Mania series.
