The latest album by Sanalucas, a duo formed by Yu Shimizu — a leading figure in the Chichibu avant-garde scene alongside Shin Sasakubo — and Isana Akita, who has a background in the world of classical guitar. With the acoustic guitar placed at the center, the duo makes full use of various effects and looping techniques, at times incorporating a rock-tinged edge through electric guitar, to create soundscapes that are both delicate and expansive. A wonderful work where the refined technique and broad musicality of both artists beautifully intersect. Touches of respect for Manuel Göttsching, Pat Metheny and Steve Reich can also be felt throughout. Highly recommended. Copies were kindly supplied directly by the artists when they performed live at our store.
