Seiji Ozawa, now one of the world's leading conductors, conducts the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of the latest works by Toru Takemitsu, one of Japan's greatest composers, and Maki Ishii, an emerging composer in the contemporary music world. Side A features Toru Takemitsu's "Cassiopeia", an incredibly deep piece in which Stomu Yamashita's primitive percussion performance and the orchestra's springy and rapid progression of sounds create a world in which the orchestra can be heard. “Encounter II" by Maki Ishii is a score for gagaku (ancient Japanese court music) and orchestra, which follows the world of Toru Takemitsu and takes Japanese classical music to a new level. The performance is also very good.
A: Cassiopeia
