Iroha - Ka

An album from 1982 by Japanese percussionist Tsutomu Yamashita, who first rose to prominence in the late 1960s through classical and contemporary music, and is also well known for his rock-oriented live work and collaborations with Steve Winwood, Klaus Schulze, and Michael Shrieve. This is the third installment in the New Age electronics series that began with Iroha in 1982. As on the previous volume, Yamashita places a strong emphasis on synthesizers, joined by Takashi Kokubo and Sen Izumi, shaping a grand conceptual work inspired by the world of Buddhism. The result is a deeply meditative soundscape—music that feels as if subterranean magma is boiling beneath the earth, or as if the planet itself were trembling.
