This album was released in 1967 by Charles Lloyd, a saxophonist with a deep knowledge of US black music such as blues and gospel, who has performed with Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, and many others on the free jazz side. Recorded live at The Filmore Auditorium in San Francisco with Keith Jarrett (p, ss), Ron McClure (b), and Jack DeJohnette (ds). Although the style is bebop, A1 features Llyod's flute swaying with a groovy waltz beat and an ethnic feel, while B2 explodes with Sheets of Sound-like interplay in the vein of John Coltrane. A1, which is a masterpiece of spiritual jazz.
