Akira Ifukube / Kiyoshige Koyama / Yuzo Toyama
Contemporary Music of Japan 4
Victor (Japan) 1979
KVX-5506 (LP) w/obi.
sleeve : EX-(slightly collapse on one corner, slightly dirts.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noises.)

This is the 4th releases of “Contemporary Music of Japan 4" by Victor, features orchestral works by the pre-war born Akira Ifukube and Kiyoshige Koyama, as well as works for piano and cello by the post-war born Yuzo Toyama. Perhaps greatly inspired by Igor Stravinsky, all the works on this album are deeply imbued with Japan's ethnic elements. They evoke the primordial landscapes etched into the Japanese peaple and offer foreigners a sense of exoticism. Particularly, A1 by Ifukube, known for his film music for "Godzilla," boldly incorporates rhythmic repetition, anticipating the minimalist music trend later inspired by indigenous folk music from Africa and elsewhere, appealing to fans of Steve Reich and John Adams. It's an easily accessible album even for those unfamiliar with orchestral music. Highly recommended.

A1: Akira Ifukube “Ritmica Ostinata for Piano and Orchestra”
B1: Kiyoshige Koyama “Kobiki-Uta for Orchestra”
