This album was released in 1983 on a label run by the University of Iowa, the oldest university in Iowa, founded in 1847 in Iowa City, USA, and Iowa's leading institution of higher education. A1 features music by composer Charles Wuorinen, who has many works on Nonesuch, performed by the university's symphony orchestra and violinist Paul Zukofsky under the direction of James Dixon. B1 is a percussion solo and tape-edited piece composed by Peter Tod Lewis, director of the university's electronic music studio, with a very deep drone sound heard in the second half. B2 is a percussion solo work by composer Richard Hervig, professor of composition theory at the University. Both B-side two pieces are performed by Steven Schick.
