This album was produced by Paul Berliner, a multi-instrumentalist and folklorist whose works are deeply devoted to African music, such as "The Sun Rises Late Here" featured in "OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION". This is a field recording album of mbira (thumb piano) performances by the Shona people of Rhodesia, Central Africa, released in 1973 by Nonesuch's World Music Division, Explorer Series. The album contains traditional music expressing various situations and emotions rooted in daily life, including A1, in which chants and calls are heard from various places over the unique polyrhythmic shaker and mbira melody, and A3, in which the chants are very interesting as they move up and down the scale in a unique back voice. The recording is in excellent condition, and the simple but warm sound echoes with warmth. You can feel the roots of minimal music.

A1: Nhemamusasa
A2: Taireva
