Released in 1979, this album is by Greek composer Vassilis Dimitriou, who was born in Athens in 1945 and worked widely across theater, television, radio, film, ballet, and contemporary music. The album is themed around the Cyclades and is said to be his first purely instrumental work, with all pieces written specifically for this record rather than for theater or film, or as arrangements of existing compositions. Centered on Dimitriou’s own acoustic piano, the music incorporates guitar, harp, violin, and other string instruments, creating an emotional entekhno sound that draws not only on Greek folk music, but also hints of Sicilian, Andalusian, and gypsy elements, all elevated into a modern and refined musical language.
