Here’s a rare treasure from American composer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Gibson, active since the early ’60s and known for performing early works by Steve Reich, Terry Riley, La Monte Young, and Philip Glass. Released in 1977, this LP delivers two deep excursions into pure minimalism. Side A features “Cycles,” performed on the monumental pipe organ installed at Washington Square Church in New York. Layer upon layer of sustained tones form an ever-shifting moiré of sound—an astonishing, meditative drone of profound depth.

Flip it over and you’ll find “Untitled,” a solo outing on alto flute. Through extended melodic repetitions and gradual expansions, Gibson crafts a spacious, introspective piece of solo minimal music. Running 22:49 on Side A and 18:15 on Side B, this is a long-form immersion designed to pull you completely into its resonance. A remarkable recording—wholeheartedly recommended. Original U.S. pressing.

B: Untitled
