This 1980 album by Brazilian songstress Gal Costa—who rose to stardom in the late 1960s as a leading figure of the Tropicália movement alongside Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Maria Bethânia—pays full tribute to the works of Ary Barroso, one of Brazil’s most celebrated composers, who wrote over 3,000 pieces between the early 1930s and his passing in 1964. Produced by Roberto Menescal and Guilherme Araújo, the album features an all-star lineup including José Roberto Bertrami of Azymuth and Victor Biglione. From start to finish, it radiates the brilliance of MPB, making it a highly recommended release.
