This is the second album by Simone, a leading female singer of Brazil's second-generation MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), released in 1974. It was produced and directed by the renowned duo Milton Miranda and Maestro Gaya, who were behind numerous classic releases on EMI/Odeon, including works by Egberto Gismonti, Luis Gonzaga Jr., and Som Imaginario. Standout tracks include A5, where Simone delivers an emotionally rich vocal performance over a nostalgic acoustic guitar arpeggio and earthy flute melodies, and the title track B1, featuring gently swaying electric piano tremolos, primitive percussion beats, and stirring string arrangements that tug at the heart. The album also includes songs written by João Bosco, Caetano Veloso, and the legendary duo of Erasmo Carlos and Roberto Carlos. Deeply imbued with a sense of melancholy, the album’s intimate and heartfelt arrangements, combined with Simone’s sincere and moving vocals, make it a quietly powerful masterpiece. This is the first Brazilian reissue from 1985.
