This is a masterpiece album released from ECM in 1980 by Art Ensemble of Chicago, a group from Chicago, USA, which develops free/experimental jazz with roots in African traditional music. A1 is a cosmic jazz piece of more than 19 minutes in length. The first half of the piece is filled with various organic sound effects such as chimes, gongs, bells and chirping chickens, and the second half is a chaotic world of rage. This is an intense piece of experimental jazz that is a return to Africa, with free-form expressions of various scenes of nature and human emotions throughout. The great thing about these guys is the organic feeling that lurks within such an avant-garde orientation.
