Harry Partch, known worldwide as the first Western composer to systematically treat the microtonal scale, created many of his own instruments. This is a quadraphonic version released in 1972, featuring Michael Ranta. 12 instruments including a modified viola are used on side A, "Daphne of the Dunes," creating percussive sounds and strange animal noises. The three pieces on side B feature four different self-made instruments, giving the music an atmosphere reminiscent of folk music from Indonesia, Vietnam, and other Asian countries. This is very interesting music that invites you into a mysterious world of sound composed entirely of microtones. It is enjoyable beyond the framework of contemporary music. Highly recommended.
