This is the only album released in 1985 by Higher Primates, a one-off project featuring three percussionists, a bassist, a saxophonist, and a trumpeter, produced by American composer/conductor Gunter Schuller. Recorded in 1983 at two different studios in New Jersey, the album features entirely improvised performances with no predetermined paths or pre-arrangements. It's a wonderful work where quiet and dynamic actions intermingle with plenty of space, creating an avant-garde approach that traverses contemporary music and free jazz through sparks of inspiration and physical/spiritual communion. Side B is a 27-minute and 26-second improvisation. Highly recommended.
