Featured in the first edition of the guidebook Obscure Sound. A 3-track debut 12" single released in 1986 by Japanese session group Killing Time, centered around Bun Itakura of the electronic new-wave band Chakra, with contributions from MaTo, Kazuto Shimizu, Neko Saito, Mecken, and Whacho. A1 interweaves intricately chiseled, percussive rhythms with a variety of sounds carrying a subtle tropical inflection. B1 presents a strikingly beautiful contrast between the tabla’s primitive pulse and the elegant melodic lines of violin and cello. B2 radiates a sense of positive energy that expands across the sonic field. A masterwork of exceptionally refined New Age–tinged experimental music, blending an ethnic sensibility with a sophisticated aesthetic akin to cutting-edge European contemporary jazz. Highly recommended.
