Featured in the guidebook OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION, this is a 1976 release by Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co., the electronic music collective formed in New York in 1968 with the support of Dr. Robert Moog, the inventor of the Moog Synthesizer. The group consisted of three synthesists — David Borden, Steve Drews, and Judy Borsher — and every member here operates massive Moog synthesizers and electric piano to create a work of 100% pure electronic music. Across these three extended pieces, minimally repeating single-note synthesizer lines gradually shift their sequences, painting scenes that at times feel like rays of sunlight, and at others like the undulating surface of the sea, resulting in a super-organic vision of long-form electronic music. An extraordinary world that comes remarkably close to Terry Riley and Steve Reich. An absolutely undeniable, top-tier recommendation.
