Released in 1985, this album presents works from the 1980s by three composers of international stature: Polish composer Bogusław Schaeffer, Argentine composer Ricardo Mandolini, and Korean composer Sukhi Kang. Schaeffer’s A1 unfolds as a striking piece of electronic musique concrète, built from writhing electronic sounds reminiscent of John Appleton, interwoven with radio-broadcast–like found recordings. Mandolini’s A2 offers a galactic form of concrète, constructed from dense accumulations of electronic sound, while Kang’s B1 explores electric contemporary music through the use of prepared or otherwise modified acoustic piano. Each work excels as a kind of sonic wave experience, where splintering, dispersed sounds are felt not only by the ears but almost physically on the skin—an exceptional listening experience for adventurous ears.
