This album, released in 1975, features German cellist Siegfried Palm, who was active as a member of the Hermann Strings Quartet led by Bernhard Hermann, and also served as a professor at the Cologne University of Music and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, as well as a lecturer at the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music. On some tracks, pianist Aloys Kontarsky joins the performance. The album showcases excellent works by contemporary composers such as Anton Webern, Iannis Xenakis, Mauricio Kagel, Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Krzysztof Penderecki, Earle Brown, and Isang Yun. Tracks like Xenakis’s A2 can even be appreciated with a free jazz sensibility, and Zimmermann’s A5 is like dark industrial music. The recording quality is also outstanding.

A2: Iannis Xenakis “Nomos Alpha”
A5: Bernd-Alois Zimmerman “Vier kurze Studien”
B3: Isang Yun “Glissees”
