A reprint of "Obscure Sound Revised Edition", released in February 2020, which is a revised edition of the record guide "Obscure Sound - 640 Selections of Utopian Records" that was published in 2013 and went out of print. Approximately 200 records from the 2013 first edition remain, with approximately 600 new reviews added. In addition, a long interview with revered musician Yasuaki Shimizu, and special features on Japanese ambient/new age, ECM, and Spanish music are included at the beginning. The regular reviews also follow the previous style of classification by keyword. The artwork is by Ginji Kimura, who is active in various fields, the book design/layout is by Shinji Mizoguchi of Lush, and the planning and editing were handled by Takeshi Hattori of Rittor Music, as with the first edition.

This is a greatly expanded and revised edition of "Obscure Sound: 640 Selections of Utopian Records," which was released in 2013 and gradually gained a following, especially in the used record market, as a new type of disk guide that invites listeners to an unknown world of sound. After the manufacturer's stock ran out, it was traded at premium prices. Chee Shimizu, who has worldwide connections as a DJ/buyer and has spearheaded the global re-evaluation of New Age/ambient music, has selected approximately 800 records (of which only a little over 200 overlap with the previous work). This book can be a bible for those seeking music that is a little different from the rest.
