Released in 1978, this album is by Stephan Micus, the singular ethnic instrumentalist who freely employs everything from conventional instruments to flowerpots and stones. It was issued on JAPO, the jazz label affiliated with ECM. The album presents one extended composition of more than seventeen minutes on each side, both offering deeply organic ethnic music. Side A features a string ensemble built around the beautiful tones of the table harp, interwoven with instruments including the zither, a traditional folk instrument associated with the Bavarian region of Germany. Side B enters a meditative world, with Micus’ Quranic-style vocals floating over the gentle, quietly resonant sounds of guitar and zither. An exceptionally beautiful album. Original German pressing.
