This is an album released in 1985 by Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna, a singer who is known as a prominent inheritor of traditional music from the state of Karnataka in southwestern India. The album features violinist Ms. A. Kanyakumari, mridangam player Srimushnam V. Raja Rao, gatam (clay pot) player K. Nagaraja Rao, and Hindustani-influenced traditional Karnataka music composed by composer Muthusami Dikshitar. K. Nagaraja Rao and composer Muthusami Dikshitar. The warm rhythms of mridangam, a double-sided drum made of hollowed out wood, and gatam, a pottery jar, are accompanied by the unique flickering sound of violin and vocals, creating a ritualistic sound world that is highly intoxicating.
