This album, released in 1968 from the 1960s King Records series featuring Japanese festival music, features a performance of Kanda-Bayashi. The performance is by the Kanda Hayashi Preservation Society. The origins and traditions of this music are unknown, but it is one of the Michiyuki-Bayashi, which were already performed on floats and yatai during the Edo period for portable shrine processions at festivals, and offers primitive, strong and weak rhythmic music with various drums and bells of various sizes beating to the beat of a shinobue flute. Particularly worth listening to is side A, where the performance unfolds over 13 minutes and 38 seconds. This series has a lot of good stuff, so check it out.
