This album was released in 1976 as part of the '<Outstanding Albums from Around the World>' series by the American label Lyrichord, which has released numerous works of world and traditional music. Focusing on the theme of the Near East from a Western perspective, the album features folk music from North Africa, such as Egypt and Morocco, to the Middle East, including Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The music includes a variety of instruments and melodic cultural elements that link these regions, such as the oud, tabla, santoor, kanun, tombak, darbuka, tar, and ney.
