A highly valuable and obscure record has just arrived. This album, released in 1963 as the third volume in Wattle Recordings’ archival series Wattle Ethnic Sesies, features music originally issued on SP records during the late 1950s. The focus is on the music of the Aboriginal peoples—indigenous inhabitants of mainland Australia and surrounding islands. This release highlights traditional music from various Aboriginal groups residing in the northern part of Australia’s Northern Territory, known as Arnhem Land. It includes didgeridoo performances and ceremonial chants from ethnic groups such as the Gunborg, Bungguls, Wongga, and Marajin. The album holds significant historical value, allowing listeners to hear and understand the regional diversity of Aboriginal musical traditions. Highly, highly recommended.
