Released in 1988, this album features the music of Capoeira, a unique culture that combines martial arts, music, and dance practiced by Africans who were taken to Brazil as slaves during the colonial period. Performed by Mestre Vava e grupo and Mestre Macao e grupo da Academia, it features two styles of music, "Regional (Hegionau)" and "Angola (Angola)". The percussion instruments used in this work include the berimbau, pandeiro (a type of frame drum), agogo, and a large hand drum called an atabaki, and the tempo is varied with simple rhythms, shouts, and songs. It is a rare opportunity to experience Capoeira's pristine style. The origin of minimalism in contemporary music, found from African music, can also be felt here.
