This album was released in 1981 by Ensemble Nipponia, which was formed in 1964 and has continued to pursue new possibilities in contemporary Japanese music, both in Japan and overseas. The album includes two compositions by Minoru Miki, the group's musical director. "Hote" is a huge piece of music that lasts nearly 30 minutes and features a total of 20 musicians playing traditional instruments used in Japan since ancient times, such as Noh flute, Shinobue, Tsuzumi, Shakuhachi, Biwa, Shamisen and Koto. The second half of "Wa" is an ensemble of shakuhachi, shamisen, biwa, koto, and percussion, with the introduction of beats in a form similar to improvisation. The second half of the piece, when the beat is introduced, is almost like improvisation. Both pieces have developments that captivate the ear at key points.
