Tashi Plays Takemitsu
Quatrain II
RCA (Japan) 1979
RVC-2290 (LP) Master Sound, obi, insert
sleeve : EX+ (very slight scuffs on corners)
media : EX/EX (slight surface noise in some parts)

A masterpiece album released in 1979, featuring a performance of scores by Toru Takemitsu, a great composer that Japan is proud of worldwide, by Tashi, a group led by pianist Peter Serkin. "Quatrain II" on side A is a continuation of "Quatrain," a score for four soloists and orchestra composed in 1975, and was written for Tashi. "Water Ways" on B1 is dedicated to Peter Serkin, and "Waves" on B2 is dedicated to Richard Stolzman, one of Tashi's members. The two tracks on side B are particularly noteworthy, as they are part of a series of works by Takemitsu at the time based on the theme of "water." B1, with its harp and violin melodies creating a somewhat oriental atmosphere, and B2, with its impressive tremolo reminiscent of the sound of the sea, both lead to Takemitsu's minimalist music, which was also featured in the guide book "OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION" as the 1982 masterpiece "Water Ways."
