Toru Takemitsu / Olivier Messian
November Steps / Et Expecto Resurrectionem Mortuorum
Philips (Japan) 1970
SFX-7779 (LP) gatefold sleeve.
sleeve : EX-(SRW, some slightly dirts.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly surface noises.)

In 1966, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Bernard Haitink, performed the historical masterpiece "November Steps" by Toru Takemitsu, one of Japan's greatest composers, and Oliver Messian's "I Long for the Resurrection of the Dead". The most notable work is "November Steps" by Takemitsu, side A, featuring shakuhachi by Katsuya Yokoyama and biwa by Kinshi Tsuruta. The ethereal world created by the shakuhachi and biwa drifting in the quiet space is similar to the spirit of Noh established by Zeami. It is a masterpiece among masterpieces, with an avant-garde orientation that does not feel old at all.
