Toshiro Mayuzumi, a leading postwar Japanese composer/contemporary musician who introduced music concrete, electronic music and avant-garde music to Japan in the early 1950s, and who himself released many compositions influenced by them. This album wad released in 1962 what is considered his greatest masterpiece, the "Nirvana Symphony". The composition was written between 1957 and 1958, and performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra. It is one of a series of compositions expressing the Buddhist world, and is performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Wilhelm Schuchter. This is '71s pressing.
