This album was released in 1978 as the first in a series of compilations of "Japanese film music" by Toho Records. A selection of masterpieces from the vast amount of film music created by Toshiro Mayuzumi, one of Japan's leading composers/contemporary musicians, which introduced music concrete, electronic music and avant-garde music to Japan in the early 1950s, and also released a number of compositions influenced by them in the post-war period. This is an excellent opportunity to listen to all of his representative works from the early 1950s to the mid-1940s, including '5,000 Kilometres to Glory', 'Red Line Zone' and 'Tokyo Olympics'. The prolific nature of this album, which also has an avant-garde aspect, is intimidating, but the emotional compositions that touch the heartstrings of the Japanese people are also very intriguing. The insert contains a list of all the film music he has worked on in the past.
