This compilation album was released in 1968 as the second volume of JVC's "Contemporary Composers Series". It features compositions for flute by three of Japan's leading musicians: Akio Yashiro, Toru Takemitsu and Akira Miyoshi. A1 by Akio Yashiro was commissioned by NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) in 1958 and is a sonata with two flutes and Yashiro's own piano. A2 by Toru Takemitsu was composed in 1959 and was published while he was a student at the Twentieth Century Music Institute, after a period of working on a number of foreign paintings and electronic music. B1 by Akira Miyoshi was published in 1955 and is a sonata for flute, cello and piano. It is not so difficult as is often the case with contemporary music, and allows the listener to listen to the melody.

A1: 矢代秋雄 “2本のフリュートとピアノのためのソナタ”
B1: 三善晃 “フリュート, チェロとピアノのためのソナタ”
