Released in 1971, this album was Chick Corea’s first release for ECM. The jazz pianist had been personally selected by Miles Davis to appear on such landmark recordings as In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and On the Corner, and would go on to spark a major fusion movement with his own 1972 masterpiece Return to Forever. True to its title, the album consists entirely of free-improvised solo piano performances, making it a masterpiece in which Corea’s spiritual and religious sensibilities are vividly expressed. The melodies that emerge from these improvisations already contain glimpses of the musical world he would develop the following year on Return to Forever. This is music best approached with an empty mind, simply surrendering oneself to the sound. Original German first pressing with no spine text, no label code, and no “Made in Germany” notation.
