An album released in 1970 on the Danish label Spectator by South African jazz pianist and composer Dollar Brand, who has been active since the 1960s and is known for numerous masterpieces themed around Africa. The recording captures his performance at the Jazz-Hus Montmartre Festival held in Copenhagen in 1969. Featuring powerful attacks, clear resonance, and the repetition of minimalist phrases reminiscent of African folk music, the melodies soar with soul and spirit—showcasing Brand at his finest in a deeply soulful solo performance throughout the album. This is the German reissue released in 1980 by Japo, a sublabel of ECM, which had acquired licensing rights in the early 1970s.
