Released in 1974, this album is by South African jazz pianist/composer Dollar Brand, who had been active since the 1960s and left behind numerous outstanding works inspired by Africa. Produced by German music journalist Joachim E. Berendt, this was the second installment in the series, and was first issued in Japan. The recording took place at Tonstudio Bauer in Ludwigsburg, Germany, well known for its association with many ECM recordings, with engineering by Martin Wieland. The album captures Brand’s solo piano at its finest, with a wonderful interplay between minimal left-hand refrains and brightly singing right-hand melodies. A beautiful opportunity to hear the essence of Dollar Brand’s piano in excellent sound quality.
