The Engstfeld Herr Quartet, featuring German saxophonist Wolfgang Engstfeld, Belgian pianist Michel Herr, and American drummer Leroy Lowe, released this album in 1983 on the Nabel label. Known for leaving remarkable collaborations on Mood Records, the quartet is joined here by guest bassists Detlev Beier and Isla Eckinger. Highlights include A1, which opens with a lyrical piano solo by Herr, and B1, where dynamic waltz beats intertwine. The album presents a rich tapestry of beautifully evocative and powerful contemporary jazz throughout. A hidden gem, highly recommended for fans of ECM-style music. Michel Herr’s piano performance is truly exceptional.
