A 1980 duo album by François Cahen (keyboards) and Yochk'o Seffer (saxophone), the core members of the legendary French progressive jazz-rock band Zao. As its title suggests, this work embraces an ethnic approach, making extensive use of the pentatonic scales found in various traditional music styles from around the world. One of the album’s most distinctive features is François Cahen’s performance on the Yamaha CP-70 electric piano, whose unique timbre is instantly recognizable. His signature phrases and expressive use of effects create a deeply spiritual atmosphere, while Yochk'o Seffer’s avant-garde saxophone interweaves ethnic melodies, resulting in a soundscape that is both beautiful and ephemeral. Highly recommended for fans of contemporary jazz in the ECM tradition.
