This album features a live recording of a quartet performance with Don Pullen (piano), Fred Hopkins (bass), and Famoudou Don Moye (percussion) at Axis in SoHo, New York, in 1977. The session, totaling nearly 38 minutes, is split across two sides of the record. The highlight of the album is undoubtedly the development after the intro on Side A, where the soaring, spiritual interplay strongly evokes the essence of Pharoah Sanders' classic Thembi. Side B builds up in intensity, eventually plunging into an overwhelming free jazz explosion. This is an absolutely incredible live performance and comes highly recommended.
Condition: There is a vertical scratch about 1 cm long from the silent part on Side A, causing continuous light noise for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds during the intro. Other than that, the condition is excellent.
