This leader album by Swiss jazz pianist Joe Haider, recorded in 1974, embodies the spirit of spiritualism inherited from John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders. Performed by a quintet featuring Andy Scherrer (sax), Ack van Rooyen (flugelhorn), Gunter Lenz (bass), and Todd Canedy (drums), the album delivers a hard-hitting yet coolly blown masterpiece of ecstatic European spiritual jazz. While each member demonstrates exceptional melodic sensibility, it's Todd Canedy's tight drumming that truly stands out. In addition to the exhilarating straight-ahead performances, the flowing and beautiful sounds of tracks B1 and B2 shine particularly bright. The album's well-balanced and solid sound owes much to the mixing engineer — none other than Conny Plank. A classic of Kraut jazz. This is the second pressing, distinguished by its monochrome-printed sleeve.
