American trumpeter John McNeil, who rose to prominence in the 1970s, released this leader album in 1979 on the prestigious Danish label SteepleChase. Featuring a powerhouse quartet with David Liebman (tenor sax, flugelhorn, flute), Richard Beirach (piano), Buster Williams (bass), and Billy Hart (drums), the album delivers spiritually charged, high-energy performances that are simply outstanding. Highlights include the title track A3, where Liebman’s earthy flute soars organically, and B3, an Afro-spiritual piece where the lead instruments burn intensely over Hart’s torrential drumming and percussion. This is the original Danish pressing.

A3: Faun
B3: Ruari
