Pianist Masabumi Kikuchi, who emerged in the late 1960s and was active not only in the Japanese jazz scene but also in the U.S., performed with Gil Evans, a master of orchestral jazz, on this album released in 1972. Recorded at the Victor studio in 1972, this limited reissue from 1975 features a big band of all Japanese jazz musicians except Billy Harper and Hannibal Marvin Peterson, including Atsusuke Mine, Yoshio Suzuki, Masahiko Togashi, Masayuki Takayanagi, Sadayuki Nakamure, and others. Considering the longstanding friendship between Gil Evans and Miles Davis, one would imagine that it would not have been so difficult to communicate musically with Kikuchi, who is under the influence of Miles. However, the entire performance is a gem that far exceeds the imagination.
