A double album released in 1980 by American pianist McCoy Tyner, who was a core member of the John Coltrane Quartet from 1960 onward, delivering brilliant performances on historic masterpieces such as Coltrane, Ballads, A Love Supreme, and Ascension. For this album, Tyner is joined by Al Foster (drums) and Cecil McBee (bass), with additional contributions from Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), John Abercrombie (guitar), Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone), and Arthur Blythe (alto sax), each appearing on different tracks. The record opens with the fast-paced A1, followed by a deep and unique arrangement of the Brazilian classic composed by Luiz Bonfá on A2. A3, written by McBee, showcases a powerful spiritual jazz vibe. A standout contemporary jazz work from this era—highly recommended throughout.
A2: Manha de Carnaval
A3: Paradox
