A 1980 debut leader album by American jazz bassist Stephen Roane. Despite being a relatively obscure artist, the album features an impressive lineup, including Richard Beirach (p), Bill Connors (g), Cecil McBee (b), and Collin Walcott (tabla), among others. Highlights include B1, where Roane's warm-toned upright bass beautifully interacts with Connors' acoustic guitar, and B2, where the organic rhythms of Walcott’s tabla create a mesmerizing backdrop for Roane’s bass to soar melodically. The album offers a rich blend of contemporary jazz with ECM-like lyricism and deep free jazz elements, making it a high-quality work despite its under-the-radar status.
